Ciao Stefano Pesapane e benvenuto su Blog della Musica. In poche righe ti puoi presentare ai nostri lettori che ancora non ti conoscono?
Ciao a tutti! Ho iniziato a suonare la batteria sui fustini dei detersivi più o meno all’età di otto anni, come piatti usavo i coperchi delle pentole di mia madre, di lì a poco mi arrivò la prima batteria “vera” e da allora non ci siamo più lasciati. Ho frequentato i corsi di batteria al Centro Jazz St. Louis di Roma e i corsi estivi del Berklee College of Music ad Umbria Jazz, nello stesso periodo ho iniziato a suonare nei club romani dove mi è capitato di fare spesso jam sessions con Massimo Urbani, Tony Scott etc. tutta gente che in qualche modo ha lasciato il segno. Poi sono andato a suonare per il Club Med per due stagioni (Marocco e Grecia); dopo il Club sono andato in tour con “The Soul Man” Rocky Roberts e, nel 1999, mi sono trasferito in Olanda, dove vivo tuttora. Diciamo che queste sono le esperienze che più mi hanno formato come batterista e, più in generale, come musicista.
Prima di parlare del tuo brano, vorremmo conoscerti meglio, sapere, ad esempio, come ti sei avvicinato alla musica, in particolar modo a quella elettronica.
La passione per la musica mi è stata trasmessa dai miei genitori ed in particolar modo da mia madre, la radio in casa era sempre sintonizzata su programmi musicali tipo l’Hit Parade di Lelio Luttazzi, era sul finire degli anni ’60 e c’era molta eccitazione nell’aria, Beatles e Rolling Stones erano le bands di quel periodo ed insieme con mio fratello iniziammo ad andare ad ascoltare le prove ed i concerti delle garage bands locali fino a formarne uno nostro.
Produrre musica mi ha sempre affascinato, è come creare dal nulla! Ad un certo punto della mia carriera musicale ho capito che essere “solo” un batterista non mi bastava più, col tempo ho accumulato tutta una serie di esperienze e conoscenze che mi hanno permesso di guardare oltre la sola batteria: adesso seguo tutte le fasi della produzione musicale, il che mi fa sentire un musicista completo, anche se non si finisce mai di imparare.

Sono cresciuto ascoltando il Jazz e quello a grandi linee è il mio genere di riferimento in quanto lo considero come la base sulla quale mi sono formato musicalmente ed ovviamente tutti i generi in qualche modo derivati da esso, ti parlo di R&B, Funk, Hip-hop e così via. I musicisti che mi hanno ispirato di più sono Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Prince, Donald Fagen/Steely Dan, Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays e Weather Report giusto per citarne alcuni.

Dopo un ottimo successo del tuo brano Two Souls Dancing uscito qualche mese fa, ora pubblichi Say It Again. Ce lo racconti come è nato?
A volte bastano un suono, una sequenza armonica e la tonalità per creare un brano e dargli il giusto mood ed è un po’ quello che è successo con Say It Again, in questo caso un piano Fender e la tonalità di LA minore, malinconica ma aperta alla speranza allo stesso tempo, che è il mio stato d’animo attuale.
Dal punto di vista musicale Say It Again quali prerogative ha?
In Say It Again ho cercato di coniugare l’energia ritmica dell’EDM con i toni emotivi del Neo Soul, ho voluto che fosse tanto ballabile quanto introspettivo e fruibile per il maggior numero di ascoltatori possibili.
Nel 2023 Stefano Pesapane ha pubblicato 5 singoli tra i quali spicca “Direction” un brano che so essere stato inserito in una importantissima compilation internazionale. Puoi dirci qualcosa?
La compilation si chiama “Legends Chronicles 1.0” ed è stata prodotta da Bentley Records, sicuramente per me è stata una sorpresa ed una grande soddisfazione, essere nella nella stessa compilation con artisti del calibro di FUTURE, Fat Joe, Gucci Mane, Rich the Kid, solo per citarne alcuni ha dato un senso a tutto il lavoro fatto in precedenza.
Mi chiedevo se i singoli che hai pubblicato e quelli che pubblicherai, faranno parte di un disco, magari in futuro.
Un album è nei miei progetti ma non per l’immediato futuro.
E riguardo l’etichetta Bentley Records? Cosa significa essere Gold Bentley Records Artist?
Bentley Records è un’etichetta discografica internazionale operativa dal 2013 con sede a Wall Street (NY) e che conta alcuni vincitori di Grammy Awards ed altri riconoscimenti tra i suoi artisti.
Essere Gold Bentley Records Artist vuol dire avere accesso a “tools” e supporto dedicati.
Secondo te è cambiato in meglio il panorama musicale italiano negli ultimi decenni?
Manco dall’Italia da un po’ di tempo quindi non sono aggiornatissimo ma se si parla di musica leggera devo dire che il panorama musicale italiano è cambiato in peggio.
C’è un messaggio che vuoi far arrivare a chi ascolta la tua musica?
Nel chaos attuale c’è bisogno di bellezza ed armonia ed è quello che cerco di comunicare con la mia musica.
